Delict & Tort

Delict (civil law jurisdictions, like Scotland) and Tort (common law jurisdictions, like England) cover the law of negligence and personal injury. It allows someone to legally call someone out on their negligent behaviour and make them pay up for the damage. These laws apply where someone unfairly causes someone else to suffer harm or a loss due to their actions or lack of care. These actions can also be crimes if they arise from a reckless attitude, allowing the victim to claim compensation if they can show that they have suffered harm. The harm doesn’t have to be physical - it can be emotional, economic, damage reputation or infringe privacy and other legal rights.
